What We Do - We help both new and established entrepreneurs as both a counselor/consultant and also as a teacher in the context of traditional classes and workshops delivered face-to-face, and more and more, online. Our focus is on developing responsible or sustainable entrepreneurship where there is a return to all your stakeholders and the broader community and world, as well as the traditional metrics.
Special Experience - Particular knowledge, experience, and connections are in doing business on Maui and Hawaii in general, including making use of government grants and incentives such as tax credits, the use of which can involve bringing on private investors. This usually means helping clients become more organized and disciplined than many small businesses usually are.
Community Service We have served on the Hawaii Governor's Advisory Board for Community Based Economic Development, and currently are on the boards of the Hawaii Venture Capital Association and Akaku Community Television and are members of the Maui Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce. Principal David Fisher also served as the director of the University of Hawaii and U.S. SBA funded Small Business Development Center at the Maui Research and Technology Center for 19 years.
Balance - Hawaii is a place where the goal is to live, work, and love--keeping a balance. This is rarely easy, but it is a hugely important goal and it is very satisfying to me when I can help people move in this direction. And even more satisfying when these Hawaii businesses are able to share this more broadly.
David Fisher Background - Fisher grew up in a U.S. Foreign Service family living in Italy, Ethiopia, Barbados, Thailand, Malta, and England as well as the U.S.A. He has a BA from Yale University and an MBA from New York University and lived and worked in New York City for 13 years before moving to Hawaii in 1989.
Working Together - We do an initial 30-60 minute meeting by phone or in person without charge to get a feel for a client's needs and to make referrals if others can do the work more effectively or for less cost. After that we are available at $200/hr for short consultations and/or can make proposals to do project work usually with a significant volume discount. I am also open to other arrangements including partnering and time payment plans.
An Evolving Team We are evolving a network of other business development specialists including accountants, attorneys, graphic artists, videographers, computer and Internet specialists.
