A grassroots land trust organization whose mission is to stabilize, protect, and restore Hawaiian cultural resources. Join us every Saturday to volunteer with Malama Honokowai, and help restore an ancient Hawaiian village so that generations to come can learn, find peace and honor those who have come before us.

MCL was established as a non-profit organization in February of 2002 and is one of only a few land trust organizations on Maui targeting Hawaiian cultural lands along the coast and inland areas. We are currently a small organization operating on the basis of volunteerism.

Education. Archaeological Stabilization. Reforestation.

Beyond the pineapple and sugarcane fields, deep in the Valley Isle, there is a past unknown to us, yet so familiar. In Honokowai Valley, where an estimated 600 Hawaiian families once thrived, ancient rock walls surrounding house sites and taro patches still stand proud. Some native and endemic plants are thriving. The rich Hawaiian history that permeates daily life on Maui has its roots here in this Valley.

Our vision is to restore Honokowai Valley to a state of balance, so that it can serve as a place to learn, to find peace and to honor those who have come before us. In the face of urban sprawl and population growth on Maui, now more then ever, we must concentrate on these efforts.

Our goal is to uncover the entire three miles. With your help, Honokowai Valley will be a place where families and individuals can come to find peace from the hustle and bustle of their daily lives.

MCL welcomes you to join us every Saturday for maintenance work in the valley. Meet us at the Pu'ukoli'i “Sugar Cane Train” Station parking lot. Groups and families are welcome. Please call or email to get more details.
